September 13, 2025 — A gas leakage incident at the Agyemang Gas Filling Station in Nyameso, along the Obuasi–Dunkwa highway, has been successfully contained following a swift response from local fire services. The incident occurred early Saturday morning when a gas tanker malfunctioned while turning into the station, resulting in a cylinder detaching and colliding with a parked tricycle. This caused a significant gas leak, with fumes spreading up to two kilometers, raising safety concerns for nearby residents.

Emergency teams from the Obuasi Municipal Fire Service, in collaboration with the AngloGold Ashanti Fire Service, quickly arrived on the scene to manage the situation. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and safety officers remain on-site to monitor the area and prevent any further risks.
In light of the incident, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly has implemented a temporary road closure from Nyameso to Kunka. Motorists traveling between Kumasi and Dunkwa are advised to take alternative routes through the Obuasi township, either via Anyinam or Mensakrom, to ensure their safety.
The Assembly reassures the public that the situation is under control and emphasizes the importance of adhering to the diversion routes. Residents and commuters are urged to cooperate with security personnel present at the scene.
